Description: Students and adults of all ages enjoy playing games. Some games offer players the opportunities to illustrate and reinforce mathematical concepts while also encouraging and enhancing mathematical reasoning and sense-making. In developing an optimal strategy, game-players engage beyond content and develop processes and proficiencies, as outlined in the Common Core State Standards.
Learn how two accessible games, Tic-Tac-Toe and the Game of Nine Cards connect mathematics from elementary through high school and can be mathematically challenging to students of all ages and a great resource for teachers too! Games provide an opportunity to consider and apply differentiation, discourse, strategic competence, and reasoning and sense-making.
You will have a chance to play along with both paper-based versions and technological tools, including apps available on the web online and for mobile devices (tablets and smart phones).
