Have your students join others from across the country in observing and reporting the timing of leafing, flowering, and other phenological events of plants in your community. Participation in Project BudBurst (www.budburst.org) will help your students learn more about natural phenomena while adding meaning and context to important science concepts taught in K-12 classrooms. Project BudBurst encourages learning about climate change and the timing of biological events in plants (such as budburst, flowering, and seed dispersal) in relation to seasonal change and variations. Participants in this field campaign science event will receive reports and mapped results from scientists throughout the year. Through a layer in Google Earth, students will be able to access this information in geographic contexts, combining compelling visuals with scientific content. You will learn how this environmental field campaign projects can enrich your science curriculum.

Join Project BudBurst co-managers, Dr. Sandra Henderson of UCAR Office of Education and Outreach and Dr. Kayri Havens of the Chicago Botanic Garden as they guide you through the Project BudBurst web site and help you prepare to get your students involved in making simple phenological observations. All materials on the web site are freely downloadable including new educational resources for use in the 2010 field campaign
