Middle School Portal

the network for middle school math and science teachers

This year, I am looking for classes across the US and world that would be willing to Skype with my students to discuss weather conditions in your area.  Also, if you are familiar with any local meteorologists who might be willing to participate I would appreciate their names as well.  Last year, we Skyped with meteorologists in NC, VA, GA, PA, and Western Australia. Looking to add to that list this year.  I'm open to suggestions for the particulars of these collaborations, but would love to get the ball rolling with some MSP2 members joining together to discuss weather and the atmosphere.  Comment here or email me at twilliamson15 (at) gmail . com

Any takers on this? Anyone committing to making something happen?
Hi Todd,
I'm interested in setting up this kind of collaboration. I'm a 6th grade teacher in Idaho. In our district we are asked to work on weather projects in January/February. I'll start looking into recruiting a local meteorologist too.
My email is crawford.angela@meridianschools.org

Great, Angela! Keep us posted on how this unfolds for you.

Of course, count me in. Could I "advertise" this activity during my webinar on classroom collaborations?
I'm from Ohio and am just starting my weather unit, but I would looooooooooooove to do this!! I acutally have students journal the weather for 7 days and we focus on air pressure and its related weather. When will you be looking to do this??

Andrea,  I am looking through MSP2 tonight and saw this post from September.  How did your weather project go?

We are hoping to start at least one collaborative project on MSP2 after the new year.  We will have a webinar on collaboration.  Within days of that webinar, we want to have another with people who are interested in doing a  project.    That group will decide on the project .. content of the project ... etc.  We want the whole process to be collaborative.

We now have a group on Collaboration. Please join and help us get this effort off the ground.  Ideas for topic have included weather, water, biomes, etc.

Please post any thoughts or questions to Collaboration.

Looking forward to working with you!

If you are still looking to discuss weather, I will be starting my unit on weather around Feb 21, 2011. If you are interested we would love to SKPE with your class. I teach 6th grade Earth Science in Newark, Delaware. Email emaggioli@tisde.org

My weather unit is over, but get in touch with me when it fits in to your curriculum because it sounds like an awesome opportunity!!  I'm not sure if our building has skype access, but I'm sure I can find a way around that!!

Thanks,

So have the two of you been able to coordinate something? If so, how did things go?
