Middle School Portal

the network for middle school math and science teachers

When I started my journey with technology integration, I had no idea what "tools" were available.  So, I would like to start this forum to post links for your favorite tools for collaboration, multimedia, editing, blogging, wikis, e-learning, education games, podcasting, digital storytelling, etc.

In your post, please include the following:

-- Name of tool
-- Primary use of tool (ex. editing, podcasting, blogging)
-- Link or citation
-- Application for education - how you use the tool in your classroom or why you like it or how it is being used in other classrooms.

If you are willing to have other members contact you to learn more about
accessing or using the tool, please let us know.  Thanks.

SmartMoves
This program is not free; however, I am using it with my students and would like to connect with other teachers who are interested in this concept. The link is to more information about the program, including the research supporting the concept.
SmartMoves includes over 40 body puzzles set to music. Research shows that using the puzzles only 3 to 5 minutes a day improves focus, attention and retention. Also, the movement helps establish a positive learning environment.
If anyone is interested in exploring this concept or has experiences to share from other similar programs, please send a message.

Yes, I am ;)
On the front page there is a link under "MSP2 Resources" if you would like to explore even more tools.
Super Helpful! I'm pulling together resources for a PD session and your list is great. May I use it and cite you as author?

Sure! Check out the Cool Tools wiki that we have for MSP2. I have added some additional tools to this list. When is your PD session? If I know the date of your session, I will try to complete the wiki for you to use.

Hi everybody - I found another blog that I thought would be very useful for all of us - Tech Tools for Teachers - I have RSS'd it on the right side of the Main Page. Really curious if you know of other blogs that do as good (or better) job at providing insight on integrating tools and teaching. Kim
TeacherZone
Free Resource for Math Teachers
http://teacher.tenmarks.com/
Free Math Videos for covering all topics for grades 3-10.
Teachers can use the video lessons in their classes, embed as homework help, and share with other teachers, parents, and students.

I follow this great blog - http://www.freetech4teachers.com/ an excellent resource for teachers.
Thank you for the great resources!!! I love the freetech4teachers blog, too. I will add these resources to our Cool Tools wiki.
Glad you liked them Davilla :)
