So what are the implications of these new standards (for math and English) on teaching and learning? Have teachers, districts, etc. started talking about them?

Well, a year+ has gone by, and either no one has read the Common Core Standards here (sadly, I have) or everyone is too stunned (or busy, or indifferent) to respond to the question.

Here's my take: more garbage from on-high that has little, if anything, to do with what matters - to students, teachers, or anything/anyone else. Except of course for the politicians who appoint people to write up these silly documents. The question is not what are the implications but rather how can yet another set of arbitrary "standards" be worked around so that something interesting and worthwhile will get taught/learned in our mathematics classrooms.

Well the CCSSM (Common Core State Standards for Mathematics) are here--what is your school/district doing to facilitate their implementation?
