Hi Bernardo - Hope your summer is going well! I wanted to update you on our free webinars and hope you can join us for one of them soon.
We've had three Tech Talks so far - one on Interactive Notebooks, Moodle, and Digital Storytelling. You can get to the recordings of those by clicking on the Web Archive link.
You can see all our upcoming events by clicking on the Events tab. The next TechTalk topic is Using Wikis. We've got lots more topics to cover in the next few months - technology, pedagogy, content knowledge, all sorts of fun stuff! Any ideas on additional topics or feedback you have would be greatly appreciated! Kim
Bernardo, I agree that the disconnect is common, unfortunately. Perhaps we can knit together some like-minded folks here who are interested in building bridges between higher education/academia in science and math and middle school, at least. Cathy Balas, Director of Education at Avetec (an aeronautics R&D firm here in Ohio) just joined MSP2. She may be a helpful connection for you.

Thank you, Bernardo, for sharing. Hope you don't mind my follow-up questions: What prompted you to get involved in outreach work as a uni lecturer? What is Tasmania and/or the entire country of Australia doing to address the challenges you noted? What organizations or individuals have you found in your outreach work that are efficacious in addressing any of the challenges in their locales?
Welcome, Bernardo. We're pleased to have college faculty join the community. Would you be willing to share a little about your college? What you teach? How your institution utilizes digital tools for teaching and learning?

Hi Bernardo - So glad you joined the MSP2 network. We're just getting started so any ideas or feedback you have would be greatly appreciated! We've got lots of resources for middle school math and science teachers - look at the left side of the Main page - Science and Math Publications, Diigo lists, and two project blogs where we highlight lots of exemplary online math (and science) resources - Resources for Middle School Math and Science and Connecting News.
We're having some really good discussions about integrating technology and the math group is starting to take off. I see that you are college faculty - do you teach methods classes to preservice teachers? Not sure how everything works in Australia. I'm at Ohio State University in the College of Education and will be teaching the middle school science preservice teacher cadre this fall - Teaching and Learning Science at the Middle. I'm trying to figure out the best way to get my preservice teachers involved in this network. Any ideas?
You bring an international perspective - I'm looking forward to hearing what kinds of issues you are having - and how they compare to the US. Welcome – Kim
