This sounds wonderful! There is nothing like feeling wanted to make a positive experience.

Dr. Barbara Blackburn is one of the professors I know. At the moment, I can "see" the other person, but I can't think of her name. I think it is Janelle....something.

Good luck to you! .. and again, welcome!

Chad, I am sorry you didn't find ASU welcoming. Hopefully UNCC will be better.

What program are you in? I also know a couple of people who teach in the middle level program at UNCC.

If there is ever anything we can do to help, let us know. ..and please come work with us here. - Rebecca

Welcome, Chad to MSP2!

I notice that you are a pre-service teacher and that you are in Boone. Would you by chance be part of the middle level program there with Dr. McEwin? That is such a strong program, and the professors are wonderful.

Currently I am working with some student interns from Winthrop University. I hope you will be able to find resources here which will help you as you work towards having your own classroom.

Congratulations on taking a step towards building your own learning community here on the portal. Who knows, you may meet someone here who can help you acquire a position when you are ready. ;-)

Best wishes to you! - Rebecca

Hi Chad - Let me add my welcome. So glad you provided some information in your profile - you can also write more of a bio in your text box on your My Page.

If fact, there are all sorts of things that you can do to personalize your experience in this network - we're having our next online "getting started" session October 6 - hopefully, you'll be able to join us.

One thing that Mary didn't mention is our fall book club. The selection we are reading now is Omnivore's Dilemma - it can be a life style changer. We have Book Club group where we are having discussions - maybe you would like to join us? We'd got lots of other groups too.

Hope you'll find something you can use in our Science Resource Guides, Diigo lists, and project blogs - all of these resources can be found on the left side of the Main Page - MSP2 Resources.

Any ideas or feedback would be greatly appreciated. Welcome - Kim

Hi, Chad! Welcome! This is a great place for a beginning teacher. There is a wealth of resources here--human, digital, content-focused. Are you at Appalachian State? Where are you in your preparation? There are some North Carolinians here as well. I see that you're friends with Marta. She's become quite active here, so might be a good person to help you navigate the site, as well as any of our Teacher Leaders (Tom, Todd, Karolee, Eric, or Rebecca).

To echo Tom, here, yes...feel free to ask questions. But also feel free to share your experiences and knowledge! You can be a support and resource for others!

Again, welcome.

Hi Chad,

Welcome to the Portal. Being a new teacher........Boy, you're in for a wild ride ; )

If I were you, I'd start by looking through the forum threads and blogs. You'll find everything from new technologies to ways to get the students to turn in their homework. Please feel free to ask any questions that may pop up through your journeys. We're always glad to help.

Take Care,
Tom
