Hope you join us online this Thursday, 1/13 at 4pm EST as we explore how reader's theater can be used to improve comprehension of informational text and help students learn science concepts. We'll focus on science-themed text, but the same principles can apply to other  content areas as well. You can find the link to participate, the descriptions, and archived recordings of all the webinars at http://wiki.nsdl.org/index.php/BeyondPenguins/Seminars

Dear Cheryl,

Welcome to MSP2! I notice you already have a couple of friends. That is a great start.

Mary mentioned several groups which might interest you. I would like to encourage you to join the ESOL group. We are hoping to make that a lively area for discussion. However, we have to get a nice group in order for the discussion to be lively.

In addition to people who are MSP2 members, I am also encouraging friends who are interested in this area .. and friends who have knowledge in this area, to join.

We look forward to working with you here.

BTW, I have a friend who lives north of Harrisburg. Sally Bair is the tech director in a school district there. She is also very active in the PA technology association. I don't know if you know her.

Hello, Cheryl,

Rebecca Lawson has just started a ESOL group here on MSP2. This might be a helpful place for you to engage in specific conversation about working with second language learners.

Hi Cheryl - Let me second Mary's welcome - and Mary's comment about how helpful Steve has been. So glad you provided some information in your profile - you can also write more of a bio in your text box on your My Page.

If fact, there are all sorts of things that you can do to personalize your experience in this network - we're having our next online "getting started" session October 6 - hopefully, you'll be able to join us. Although, being friends with Steve and Lucy you probably already know tons!

One thing that Mary didn't mention is our fall book club. The selection we are reading now is Omnivore's Dilemma - it can be a life style changer. We have Book Club group where we are having discussions - maybe you would like to join us? We'd got lots of other groups too.

Any ideas or feedback would be greatly appreciated. Welcome - Kim

Welcome, Cheryl, to MSP2. Love the picture! Who is the special little one? Daughter? Niece?

I see that you've got a couple of friends here on MSP2, including our good friend Steve Hargadon. Steve has been very helpful to this project and has been a great resource and encouragement to me personally.

According to your profile info, you are a busy and knowledgeable person!!! How wonderful to have you with us. Interesting that several new members lately have indicated a need for help with or a willingness to help with matters related to ESL/ELL. You can do an "advanced search" to find folks according to the areas which they are willing to help.

A couple of things here on MSP2 that relate to some of the things you've mentioned in your profile (and perhaps a way to begin to engage):
1. There is a Literacy in the Content Areas group that has had some discussion over a couple of different topics.
2. There is an Integrating Technology group as well.
3. Greg Louie started an Educational and Action Research group and has been interested in engaging folks in discussion around working with students' misconceptions.

I encourage you to jump in to any of the discussions, post a blog, share resources, explore and contribute to the online resource guides (math and science).

Again, welcome.
