Job Negotiation

When a teacher is negotiating her salary, should she demand that their be Dental insurance provided. Many teachers have an option to be insured by their spouse. I am not sure what the standard is in the South. Any advice on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

I'd like to echo Rebecca's welcome, Cindy. We're glad you've joined MSP2. Are you currently a math or science teacher? I assume you teach in the middle grades??

It would be interesting to know, too, how you found out about MSP2 and how you'd like to participate on MSP2.

Again, welcome.

Cindy, Welcome!

Please take a few minutes to tell us a little about yourself, what you teach, your experiences, etc.

We hope you will find the site to be beneficial to you in your teaching.

Your blog post asks about dental insurance. In South Carolina public schools, everyone has access to the same insurance. Negotiating would not be an option. In SC we have a minimal dental plan that is free. We can choose to have better coverage for about $20 per month.

If you are new to Georgia and wish to work at the middle level (if you don't already have a position), the Georgia Middle School Association (Linda Hopping, Exec. Dir) would be a great resource for you. They do good work in Georgia! Tell Linda that Rebecca sent you.

Here is the link to GMSA http://www.gmsa.net/

We look forward to collaborating with you here.
Rebecca
