Just occurred to me that I have an example of a student using an iPod for learning purposes. The example, however, is not of a middle school student. It's a college junior. My son is planning to take the MCAT's at the end of the summer.…
I didn't teach Science this past year so I don't have any of the test podcast links, but here is one example of the 5th graders from the class with a few of the slower readers. Remember that these are mainly done by the kids with very…
What great tools for teaching Science! I have used them for delivering content to students who have reading disabilities. Imagine the power the student has by controlling the content and its delivery. I even videotaped a lab and put it on an iPod for a student to watch and participate without even having to be in the lab. iPods can be used to show Powerpoints to students who are absent. They can even take the iPod home to catch up on missing lectures/demonstrations.How else can we use these…See More

Hi Tom - Would you be willing to share some of the test review podcasts? Are any of the podcasts for low ability readers available online? It's always great to have concrete examples of great-sounding ideas. Thanks, Kim
I agree that Ipods are wonderful devices for education. There will always be resistance to new technologies, but it’s our job to utilize what the kids like to make education seem more relevant and exciting. It just takes forward thinking…
That is amazing - a perfect example of using personal technology to support different learning styles or needs. Kim

In our school, there are many who do have one, but almost everyone has a cell phone. If we could get content onto their phones, over 80% of our students could participate. Since iPods are banned, they are not seen as tools for education. I had to…
That is what makes teaching in the 21st century so great. Students can learn from all over the globe and participate in a workshop on rockets that would have been impossible to be a part of a few years ago.
I have looked at Moodle and it makes my…
Our school does not sign them out and take them home, yet. I am a little nervous about letting them leave the building, but I hear other schools do it and that it works great. I envision a check out system in the near future.
I love the idea of…
Hi David,
Does your school have iPods for students to sign out and take home?
I have created simple podcasts and uploaded them to Podbean where my students can go listen to them or download them to laptops ( each 7th and 8th grader has a laptop…
I want to see this portal provide a place for sharing Web 2.0 ideas and how to use those ideas in the classroom. If the classroom is to be flat, it would be nice to have a place to meet like minded teachers who are looking to use 21st century tools…
Twitter is blocked in our district. I tweet with friends and colleagues, but am not sure how to bring Twitter into the classroom. It would require a significant shift in pedagogy for sure, but I am not certain where to even begin. I would love to…
Hey Taksman - Hope your summer is going well! I wanted to update you on our free webinars and hope you can join us for one of them soon.
We've had three Tech Talks so far - one on Interactive Notebooks, Moodle, and Digital Storytelling. You can get to the recordings of those by clicking on the Web Archive link.
You can see all our upcoming events by clicking on the Events tab. The next TechTalk topic is Using Wikis. We've got lots more topics to cover in the next few months - technology, pedagogy, content knowledge, all sorts of fun stuff! Any ideas on additional topics or feedback you have would be greatly appreciated! Kim
Excellent - Writing an article on iPods would be great - please email Jessica Fries-Gaither at fries-gaither.1@osu.edu and she will get you on the schedule. She is the project director for Beyond Penguins. I'll tell her you are going to contact her. Kim
David - would you be interested in writing an article or two for another project - Beyond Penguins and Polar Bears? We have a column called Integrating Technology and have hit quite a few topics but having an article on Twitter and one on iPods would be great. Kim
In Texas, our state assessment a called TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills). Corny. I know. :) So what did you think of the video? We have done Taksman for two years and would love some feedback.
I am the Inclusion Facilitator for our campus and for the district as well. I love using technology in the classroom. I have helped bring interactive whiteboards, iPods, podcasting, web sites, and video into our classrooms. My profile pic is a character that our Science department chair and I cooked up called "Taksman." You can see episodes of Taksman here. Click the link and search for Taksman.
Welcome, David.
Would you be willing to share a little bit about yourself? What do you teach? What do you LOVE to teach? Am curious about the story behind the cape, mask and capital T!
Hi David - Welcome to the MSP2 network! So glad you joined. We're just getting started so any ideas or feedback you have would be greatly appreciated. We have some resources that you might be interested in - check out the events/opportunities section, we also have science wiki pages that you can click on in the Links box on the Main page, Diigo groups that you can join, and blogs specifically written for middle school science teachers - see the right side of the Main page - Connecting News and Resources for Science/Math. Any ideas for additional topics would be great. Regards, Sarita
