HI Donna

The CSTA conference is coming up soon! Are you planning on going? I'll be there!

I am hoping to connect with some of my fellow MSP2 science teachers. Its always neat to put a real face with a name.

I love conferences like this. They are a great place to get inspired, find new lessons and resources, and network with peers. Unfortunately, not all of us have the resources to go. Time and money are obstacles we all need to deal with. Plus, most conferences are only offered once a year and we often need the connections, inspiration and resources throughout the year.

That is one of the benefits of online collaboration. You can connect when you have the time and don't have to worry about the cost to get there.

I am planning on sharing with the rest of MSP2 some of the great things I learn at the CSTA conference. If you go, maybe you can help me. And if you can't go, maybe will be able to find some good tidbits that I am able to bring back.

I hope you'll be there, but if not, I'll see you online.

toodles

Donna,

Thank you for providing information about yourself. Mary invited you to join us in the ESOL group, and I notice you have expertise in that area.

Please join us in the group. We have many people who need help in this area, but we don't have people who are experienced to share successful strategies. You would be a great asset to us.

Again, Welcome! - Rebecca

Hi, Donna,

Rebecca Lawson has just started a ESOL group here on MSP2. Please consider joining this group and share ideas, resources, and experiences. I've just informed about 8 MSP2 members who said they needed help with ESL/ELL about this group. Your expertise would be welcome, I'm sure!

Hi Donna - Let me second Mary's welcome. So glad you provided some information in your profile - you can also write more of a bio in your text box on your My Page.

If fact, there are all sorts of things that you can do to personalize your experience in this network - we're having our next online "getting started" session October 6 - hopefully, you'll be able to join us.

One thing that Mary didn't mention is our fall book club. The selection we are reading now is Omnivore's Dilemma - it can be a life style changer. We have Book Club group where we are having discussions - maybe you would like to join us?

Any ideas or feedback would be greatly appreciated. Welcome - Kim

Hi, Donna,
Yes...Welcome! As Tom mentioned, there are forums (discussions), blogs, and groups to engage in conversation about the areas of interest you've mentioned. There is, for example, an Integrating Technology group. While we haven't had discussions specifically naming gifted and talented, there has been some discussion about strategies to address differentiation and various technology tools. Karolee Smiley posted about her AVID training this summer; Tom Jenkins has posted about Scratch animation and a new STEM course.

Thanks for offering to help around ESL/ELL and assessment! I'll keep my eyes open for questions around these topics and be glad to seek your guidance! Here's an idea...perhaps write a blog post about some experience you've had or learned from on either of these topics. From there we can send out a "shout out" to the community to invite conversation and comment.

Again...welcome

Hello Donna,

Welcome to our community. Please feel free to look through the forums and blogs for ways to help with GT and integrating technology into your classroom. Webinars are also a good way to explore some new educational tools/ideas. If you have any questions, let us know.

Hope that your school year is going well,
Tom

p.s. After you look around, please share your favorite resources with us.....
