Would you be willing to share the activities you developed here on MSP2? Files can be uploaded here on this forum page. Perhaps others would be willing to share how they are taking advantage of the Olympics to stimulate or support learning as well.

I found the lessonopoly site and used their information. I looked through all 33 student activities and created 8 of my own to use with my students this week. They love it!!! Thanks for the help:)

The folks at NBCLearn were very prompt in responding to the question about the experiments. Apparently here were problems with the appearance in the video player. The activities can be located at the NBC News Archives on Demand site,…

I agree with the general idea of figuring out what goals you and your students are trying to reach then choosing the technology tool that best helps you and your students to reach that goal. Although sometimes that can be a difficult task as…

You have found and used some interesting resources. We are in quite a different set of circumstances in the board I work in . The E.T.S.B. in Quebec has set up a portal for all teachers and students. We are able to create communities, blog, chat and…

Thanks, Kristy, for "putting yourself out there" by posing the question and being open to response and feedback. I agree with Kim that the first place to begin is to determine outcomes for your students. I think in terms of, "How do I…

About Me:

I teach in a suburban school with approximately 500-550 students depending on the year. My favorite topics to teach in science are genetics/genetic engineering, global issues, chemistry, and cells. I like to incorporate as many hands on and different varieties of learning for students. I feel the more kids get involved the better their learning and understanding are.

I just finished taking a class on the 23 Things in Web 2.0 Teachers Should Know and somehow I came across this social… Continue

Hi Kristy - Hope you are having a great summer. I wanted to update you on our free webinars.

We've had three Tech Talks so far - one on Interactive Notebooks, Moodle, and Digital Storytelling. You can get to the recordings of those by clicking on the Web Archive link.

You can see all our upcoming events by clicking on the Events tab. The next TechTalk topic is Using Wikis. We've got lots more topics to cover in the next few months - technology, pedagogy, content knowledge, all sorts of fun stuff! Any ideas on additional topics or feedback you have would be greatly appreciated! Kim

Hi Kristy - Really great questions. I've thought long and hard about the digital tools that I want to use in my projects and classses I teach and realized that it isn't the tool that I really need to worry about - I need to focus on what I want to do and then pick the tool that allows me (and my students) to do it. So -- what do you want your students to be able to do? For instance, do you want them to write and be able to edit/comment on others work - then choose wiki - pbworks is my favorite. Do you want them to be able to have a portfolio of their thoughts/work for an entire year - then choose blog (I like Wordpress a lot). I use RSS to populate my MSP website - if you click on the Science Pathway link you'll see that I RSS three WordPress blogs on the right side of the page. So... what do you want your students to do?

BTW - I would sure like to know what those 23 things! Kim

Welcome, Kristy!

So glad you've joined MSP2. This community is a great source of experience and knowledge, and I hope you'll be willing to jump in and share your experience and knowledge.

There are 4 other Michigan folks here on MSP2. Just go to the "Members" page, click on "Advanced Search" and type in MI or Michigan to locate them, if you're interested.

Would love to learn a little bit more about you, if you're willing to share. For example: What are your favorite topics to teach? What prompted you to join MSP2? What is your school like (large? small? rural? urban? etc.?)? What you'd like to gain from MSP2? Any new resources or digital tools that you've recently begun to use in your classes?

Please feel free to jump in and contribute, post, comment, share. Also, feel free to let us know how we can help and support you.

Again, welcome!

M
