Hope you join us online this Thursday, 1/13 at 4pm EST as we explore how reader's theater can be used to improve comprehension of informational text and help students learn science concepts. We'll focus on science-themed text, but the same principles can apply to other content areas as well. You can find the link to participate, the descriptions, and archived recordings of all the webinars at http://wiki.nsdl.org/index.php/BeyondPenguins/Seminars
Hi Lorna - Let me second Tom's welcome! We've got some resources that I think will be helpful to you - look at the left side of the Main page - Math Resource Guides, Diigo lists, and project blogs where we highlight exemplary online math and science resources and the research that is going on at the polar regions.
You'll also see that we have some links in the MSP2 Resources box - Getting Funding, Teacher Opportunities, Favorite Blogs, and Freeware/Shareware. We hope that members of the network will help us add content to these pages.
In addition, I want to update you on our free webinars and hope you can join us for one of them soon. You can see all our upcoming events by clicking on the Events tab. We've got lots more topics to cover in the next few months - technology, pedagogy, content knowledge, all sorts of fun stuff!
I see that you clicked on elementary too - we have another project that might be worthwhile for you to check out - Beyond Penguins and Polar Bears - Integrating Literacy and Science for K-5 Teachers. Truth be told - lots of middle school teachers use the resource too!
Any ideas on additional topics or feedback you have would be greatly appreciated! Welcome – Kim
Welcome to the Portal. The community should be able to help you with all of your needs. Especially Instructional strategies and Integrating technology. I would recommend looking through the blogs and the forums as a starting place.
Please take some time to look at all that this site has to offer and then please feel free to ask any questions that you may have.
Also, please feel free to share more about yourself and some of your favorite resources.
