About me
First: confession :) I'm not actually a science or maths teacher but- by qualification a languages teacher and, for the last few years, a lower school geography teacher. But I have an interest in seeing what is out there for teachers of other subjects - like science and maths - as I am Moodle admin for our school and also from next year have the responsiblity of helping improve our teachers' IT skills -so anything I can point them to such as the great resources here will be extremely useful. I also train teachers in other schools in using Moodle and I find on my travels that they are always grateful for web resources to incorporate into their lessons, either on Moodle or on a smartboard or however! I hope I can contribute too here in some small way.

Hmmm...with your responsibility to help teachers' strengthen their technology skills, you have a wealth of experience to share from that perspective. As users, most of us think in terms of our own needs, but can fail to think about how to help our colleagues develop interest, awareness, exposure, skills, and comfort with the tools. Actually, that might be an interesting topic or group to form here on MSP2--professional development and/or coaching colleagues.

We've had two Tech Talks so far - one on Interactive Notebooks and one on Moodle in the Middle - which you participated in. You can get to the recordings of those by clicking on the Webinar Archive link.
You can see all our upcoming events by clicking on the Events tab. The next two are on Digital Storytelling and Using Wikis. We've got lots more topics to cover in the next few months - technology, pedagogy, content knowledge, all sorts of fun stuff!
We have another project that you might be interested in - Beyond Penguins and Polar Bears - Integrating Literacy and Science for K-5 Teachers. We've published 15 issues of the online magazine so far - each issue focuses on a polar theme and associated science concepts. We also focus on a literacy strategy and have written informational texts at three different grade bands for each issue. The informational texts (the feature story) is available as straigth text, printable/foldable PDF files, and as a ebook. The first issue was heavy on geography - where in the world is the arctic and Antarctica.
If you have any questions about any of our resources, please don't hesitate to give me a holler.
Welcome - Kim
So glad you've joined MSP2 and one of the groups here. Have you had a chance to explore any of the digital resources? Are you familiar with the National Science Digital Library? I wonder what kind of similar organization and network exists in the UK.
Would you be willing to share a little bit about yourself and your teaching situation? For example, what subjects do you teach? Are you a member of any other online professional learning communities? What digital or web-based tools are you using or interested to use with your students?
Again...welcome!
