Few things about middle school students drive teachers to the brink of insanity faster than organization (or lack thereof) and homework. Join us for a discussion of one way to help combat both problems while also addressing multiple intelligences, differentiation, and student choice.Interactive Notebooks are a way to help facilitate all of these things by allowing your students to be creative and have a choice in the way they process information. This informal chat will address the beginning…See More
Hi Meridith - Hope your summer is going well! I see that you checked "Other" - what other are you? Knowing all the ways that our members are involved in education helps us get closer to meeting the needs of our audience. It would be great on your My Page if you would add a short bio in your Text Box.
I wanted to update you on our free webinars - we've had three Tech Talks so far - one on Interactive Notebooks, Moodle, and Digital Storytelling. You can get to the recordings of those by clicking on the Web Archive link. Not sure whether you had been able to attend or not!
You can see all our upcoming events by clicking on the Events tab. The next TechTalk topic is Using Wikis. We've got lots more topics to cover in the next few months - technology, pedagogy, content knowledge, all sorts of fun stuff! Any ideas on additional topics or feedback you have would be greatly appreciated! Kim
Hi, Meredith,
I'm in Westerville, OH (NE side of Columbus). I lived in Ipswich, MA for 20+ years, and actually consider that "home in my heart."
I haven't had a middle school or high school classroom of my own since I taught in Manchester, MA between 1976-1985 (boy, that sounds like a long time ago!). But have been in education (staff development and curriculum design, experiential learning, adventure education) for my entire career. So my personal and direct experience with Web 2.0 (and yes, now 3.0) is in relation to my work with educators, non-profit professionals, and facilitating opportunities for educators (mostly school-based) to learn and integrate into their work. So it's always fascinating to hear how teachers are using, say, Interactive Notebooks. Or in the case of Leah, a new member on MSP2, who is interested in integrating young adult literature into the math classroom (any ideas on that one??).
By the way, since you have experience using wikis, are you going to join the Tech Talk on wikis on August 19?
Also, there has been some conversation scattered throughout MSP2 on wikis. It would be great if you'd like to weigh in. If you put "wiki" in the MSP2 search, you'll get some of the postings that have tagged wiki, including Karolee Smiley's posting back at the end of June.
Glad to see you have found some events that interest you. Feel free to go to those event listing and ask any questions you may have about the topics. You might also want to join some groups and add to our discussion boards. You can also introduce yourself here so that others can get to know you better.
Let us know if there is anything we can do to help.
toodles

Good to talk with you!

Southington is just down the road from where I went to high school: Bristol Central HS.
Anyway...I'm glad you've joined MSP2 and echo Karolee: glad you've found events that interest you!
