Middle School Grows Veggies to Feed the Hungry

Today I learned about a young lady in SC who is doing her part to stamp out hunger.  In 3rd grade, Katie's teacher gave each student a cabbage plant.  Katie nurtured hers into a 40-pound cabbage.  When she learned that many were not as fortunate as her family, she donated the cabbage to help feed the hungry.  This link is to a video about her project…See More

Collaboration webinar moving into the future + SURVEY

I'd like to send a huge thanks to all of you who participated in the webinar and for sticking with us through our technical challenges at the beginning.  Although Davilla was not able to join us in person, she is the glue that made the presentation stick together.  She created the PowerPoint and the LiveBinders from information we compiled together (collaboration).  ;-)  Thanks also to Karen and Genola who made it all work at the time.  We are indebted to you! Now - let's move forward. There…See More

Hi Rebecca

I just started looking through the Middle School Portal and saw a message you sent to me a year ago regarding collaboration with an Educator in Hawaii.

How did that project go?

Hi Rebecca,

Good to connect did you get a chance to use the program? We are simply overwhelmed with the response and feedback from teachers after they have used the practice program.

Do let me know what you have in mind, our vision is that we should do our part in ensuring that our children build a strong foundation in math, which is critical to our country's future. We'd like to contribute and help as many kids as we can - to overcome their hesitation in math and build their confidence.

Thanks, Rebecca for your warm South Carolina welcome! Sorry that it has taken me so long to answer! You mention Tom's blog. Do you have an address---or did I miss it? Many thanks. Currie

Thanks for your warm welcome. Vermont is truly a beautiful state and the cool nights of March and April will hopefully make this a good season for Maple Sugaring. I would also imagine that North Carolina is a very green state as well. Have been working on the Pringles Challenge with several colleagues. Been teaching 7th and 8th grade for many wonderful years. There is always something new to learn and technology has revolutionized everyone's information. Let me know if I can help you with any math and science ideas.

Great question on how to get more to comment- I wish I had an easy solution. I think encouraging those who are commenting to continue is a good start- hopefully this will prompt others to join in.

I'm looking forward to participating in discussions!

Thanks for the comments. I saw this website in the latest issue from NMSA and thought it sounded interesting. The free webinars are what brought me to the site and I've only had time to do a bit of browsing, but am looking forward to growing professionally through this site.

Hi Rebecca,

Yes, I want to start several forums for members to add tips and comments regarding "technology integration", "being a new teacher", and "content knowledge". I am hoping that the forums will be the starting point for building up the wikis (webinar archives or NSDL) .

So, here is the plan. When I welcome new members, I will ask them several questions about the areas that they have selected as "I can help with". If they respond, I will take their tips, ideas, resources (websites or wikis) or comments and post them into the designated forums. If members contribute websites or wikis, I can add those to the wikis.

What are your thoughts? Thank you for the welcome comment!!
