Great, Angela! Keep us posted on how this unfolds for you.

Hi Todd, I'm interested in setting up this kind of collaboration. I'm a 6th grade teacher in Idaho. In our district we are asked to work on weather projects in January/February. I'll start looking into recruiting a local meteorologist too. My email…

I've had my students complete service projects for the past 3 years now. In their reflection, I ask that they relate their learning back to any of the subjects they are studying. During this time, my teams have completed over 3500 hours of service t…

I briefly tried, but was unable to invest the time into it that was needed. From some other folks I've heard who have done it, it's a pretty drawn out process. Definitely a cost savings, but not so much a time saver. The other issue/question I have…

Thanks, Todd, you take great notes! Rick Wormeli's closing keynote was fun, energizing and informative. But, I really liked the end. The focus on what happens after the conference. Although he jested about us leaving the conference rejuvenated and…

I was very excited to hear Daniel Pink speak. I read A Whole New Mind for a class in my master's program and hope that many others begin to see it as a call for change. Todd has great notes here that encompass the main ideas of his presentation. Fo…

I have just begun using an IWB for professional development for math teachers, since almost all our middle and high school math teachers have IWBs. It is so much fun and student engagement is so much greater.

I just read a post by Mrs. Nader - 5th grade teacher on the MiddleTalk listserv - she uses her Smartboard this way: What a great idea! I have a smart board that has balloons projected on it. Inside each balloon is a student name. They come in, get…

Pringles Challenge 2010

Announcing one of the first major STEM Collaborations between members of MSP2.

The Pringles Challenge is deceptively simple in concept. Your objective is to design and create a package to send a single Pringles Potato chip to another school in the US, via First Class Mail. The goal is to have the package that transports the chip safely with the smallest mass and volume.

Eric Biederbeck and I participated in our own mini-Pringles Challenge last school year, and it was an excell… Continue

NC Middle School Association Conference Notes

Hi folks,
The North Carolina Middle School Association had their annual conference earlier this week in Greensboro, NC. I was lucky enough to attend and took notes on the sessions I attended. There were some really good sessions and a few that received a "Not Yet" :) Would love any comments or thoughts on the notes and if you have any questions I'll be glad to answer them if I can! The notes can be found here:

MSP2 Tech Talk: Interactive Whiteboards

On September 16th, I moderated a Tech Talk on the use of Interactive Whiteboards in the classroom. During the session, we had 11 attendees and we discussed some basic strategies for implementing Interactive Whiteboards into the middle school math and science classrooms. Many of the attendees were already IWB users and shared some of their experiences with the group. The session lasted approximately 45 minutes and the recording of the Elluminate session is available below as are the slides from t… Continue

Well, how nice of you Todd, to leave me a welcoming message. I am taking this awesome class from Yavapai College on Wikis, Blogs, Podcasts and other Webtools for the Classroom. It is an on-line class and I needed hours for re-certification, so I thought, "Heck, how hard can it be?" Whoa! I have had a whole new world open up to me. I am interested in how middle school mathematics can use all of the social networking tools, so I googled the subject and came up with your site. I will be anxious to follow what is happening. Have a great summer
