Middle School Portal

the network for middle school math and science teachers

I teach in a suburban school with approximately 500-550 students depending on the year. My favorite topics to teach in science are genetics/genetic engineering, global issues, chemistry, and cells. I like to incorporate as many hands on and different varieties of learning for students. I feel the more kids get involved the better their learning and understanding are.

I just finished taking a class on the 23 Things in Web 2.0 Teachers Should Know and somehow I came across this social network site and thought it would be a great place for me to gather information and knowledge from. From being involved with social networking sites I have gathered a lot of new information to use within my classroom. I love it! I love technology and my goal this year is to incorporate more into my curriculum but I am trying to figure out what is the best route to take when doing this. I have a smartboard in my classroom and have had one for the past 3 years. I also use Senteo Clickers for assessment purposes. These are great tools to use in the classroom with kids but I also want them to be able to incorporate their own technology into class. One really cool Web 2.0 tool I am going to use is VoiceThread. Check it out when you get some time. I am going to use it for starters in the classroom and also have kids create them for projects.
