Technology for an AMAZING beginning of the school year.

As of today I have 25 days of summer left. I’m not normally a “countdown” person, but I have many changes coming my way which may lead to this school year being my last at teaching middle grades students. Instead of thinking about which filing cabinet holds beginning-of-the-year stuff, I’m wondering how I can “changeitup” to make this school year an AMAZING year for me and my students. From a technology standpoint, what do you do with your students at the beginning of the school year that I may incorporate to make it different, memorable and AMAZING for all of us?

I accepted the challenge:

5. Finally--A Challenge: Take 5 minutes and respond to one of the current discussions underway. Push yourself just a little, let your voice be heard, let's hear your opinion or your insight. It's what you ask of your students, isn't it? Wonder where to look? Check out--

Do Tech Tools Raise Achievement

I am attempting to do more with technology. I haven't done a lot yet, but have begun utilizing EASYcbm.com for assessing my math students every three weeks. I've assessed students at grade level. I am then using lower grade levels to check for basic math understanding. I also have had my students use Wordle.net to create personalized posters as an introductory tool. Another area I am beginning is a Blogger account so my students can download their personal writing. I am hoping that they will be motivated to type/edit writing other than just assigned writing tasks. I hope to do more as I can fit it into my SPED curriculum.

Hey Karen
I don't have any "AMAZING" tech tips to kick off the year off hand, but I think some others have some ideas that might inspire you.

There has been a couple of discussions on integrating tech and some different approaches.
David has a thread and so does Richard that have all kinds of integration ideas and philosophies.

Let me know if anything there sparks your interest.
Its hard for me to think of a tech kick off as I integrate tech more through out the year as a productivity tool for students, if its available. What you have access to can make a big difference too.
